Self Care for the Soul

Let’s talk about something that is important for survival and sanity in life… self care.

As a wife and mom, I am constantly helping the ones I love most but you can’t pour from an empty cup. It isn’t just important but crucial that you take care of yourself in order to be the best you can be for those around you.

Self care unfortunately falls short because of the cost and time it takes. Women feel selfish and guilty but here is the truth. Self care is not selfish.

As a woman with a large family, we live life on a budget so my self care time has to be inexpensive and efficient, yet effective.

I have compiled a list of my 10 favorite and inexpensive ways to treat yourself to some much needed self love!

1. Calling an old friend.

There is something so healing talking to a friend. Whether it is catching up or venting, having friends that you can share your life with is so important. I’m so thankful to have the gal pals I do. Day or night I can call them and whether it is a 5 minute call or a 5 hour call, there is something so healing about chatting with a girlfriend.

2. Change of scenery.

Now, I’m not saying you need to jet set to Cabo or anything like that but as a stay at home mom, I spend more time at my house than most. Sometimes a change of scenery is just what the soul needs. Whether it is a trip to the park or a drive around town with no destination. Changing your view might change your view on life.

3. Meditation

I love meditation! I try to meditate several times a week but unfortunately, my schedule doesn’t always allow it. Even if it is 15 minutes once a week, taking the time to pause and just be in the moment alone is what helps repair and renew the spirit.

4. A long bath.

There is something so peaceful about a nice relaxing shower or bath. I love to amp up my tub time with a Pombomb Bath Bomb from LimeLife by Alcone. Each Pombomb is infused with an aromatic essential-oil blend, 15 drops of our Omega-6 rich One Drop Wonder oil to hydrate the skin and epsom salt to sooth and relax the body.

If you don’t have a tub, a nice, long shower is just as relaxing and refreshing. LimeLife’s Farm to Tub soaps are infused with Coconut Oil, rainforest friendly Palm and essential oil for aromatherapy. They are vegan and leave my skin clean and moisturized.

5. Taking up a hobby.

Having some form of a creative outlet does wonders for the soul. For me, it is playing music and writing, especially poetry. Maybe you love to knit or you like to paint. Take the time to actually sit down and act on it. Perhaps you don’t have any hobbies. This is the time to learn something you’ve always wanted to do.

6. Journal

Journal is the best way to cleanse the soul. I journal a few times a week. I am able to pour out all of my troubles and thoughts onto paper without worry or judgement.

7. Exercise

Whether it is a trip to the gym, a workout at home or a walk around the block, exercise has a way to make your body and soul feel good. Getting the heart pumping is a great way to release negativity and give you a sense of empowerment.

8. A good for the soul movie.

Maybe you love a good chick flick or an awesome romcom, curling up and watching a good movie can make you feel inspired and relaxed all at once. I HIGHLY recommend “I Feel Pretty” with Amy Schumer. It is a movie all about loving the skin you’re in which is exactly what everyone needs to do!

9. Treat yourself with a treat.

I’m a total foodie. I love yummy treats! Food that you don’t have to share with a little one can make you feel so special! So grab that Milky Way and have some you time after the littles are asleep!

10. An amazing skincare routine.

Hands down, my skincare routine is my favorite form of self care. It is something I do daily for me that benefits not just my skin but my soul. Every morning, I use the Skin Confidence Collection from LimeLife by Alcone. It is chemical free, vegan, corn, lactose, soy, tree nut and peanut free!

I have dry skin so I use Quench Cleanse to clean my skin and lock in moisture and I follow that with the Skin Therapy moisturizer that restores radiance and gives added moisture to my skin.

A couple times a week I use Skin Polish. It is a face mask that is formulated with Lemon, Olive and Cypress Oil to plump my skin and restore a healthy glow.

The best part is this collection lasts around 6 months and when bundled, you save the most money which is the perfect fit for any budget!
